The Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) has been prepared for the Autry National Center’s Griffith Park Campus Improvements Project as described below:

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A Final EIR has been prepared to address the environmental impacts of Autry National Center’s Griffith Park Campus Improvements Project.  The Autry National Center proposes to renovate and modernize portions of its 11.93 acre Griffith Park Campus located at 4700 Western Heritage Way, Los Angeles, in Council District 4.  The proposed project would be implemented in two phases, the key features of which are as follows:

Phase 1:
  Expansion of the existing Campus Building by 79,000 gross square feet to provide new and reconfigured galleries, exhibition and collection storage areas and education classrooms, and a new community room; rearrangement of the surface parking facilities; and pedestrian access and landscape improvements;

Phase 2:
  Construction of a 50,000 gross square foot Institute Building that would contain a reading room, collection storage rooms, and staff work areas; and construction of a semi-subterranean parking facility beneath the Institute Building.

ANTICIPATED SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS:
Short-term significant and unavoidable construction impacts have been identified with regard to regional air quality emissions.  In addition, short-term significant and unavoidable cumulative construction impacts associated with air quality, noise and traffic/circulation could also occur in the event that several related projects in the vicinity also be constructed at the same time of the proposed project.  With implementation of proposed mitigation measures, no significant and unavoidable impacts in the other issue areas addressed in the EIR are expected with regard to construction or operation of the project.  Other issues addressed in the EIR include aesthetic resources, cultural resources, hydrology, land use, noise, fire protection, and traffic and circulation.
